Forever My Hero - By Erin Sinnott (age 15)
In a Marvel World,
Live Marvel boys and girls.
In a land of strengths and powers,
A comic book you could read for hours and hours.
On a street where villains thrive,
Heroes and legends come alive.
And you were there to share in the adventure.
Wolverine,
A tough fighting machine.
And when Bruce Banner grew angry,
He turned big and green.
Although youth drew you towards horses,
And roping and riding,
Soon you discovered, inside your true career had been hiding.
Reed, Ben, Johnny, and Sue,
At the start you may not have been the best,
But still you drew and drew.
Eating at your dinner table, heroes and villains in your mind.
Cowboys riding in the Wild West,
Your true dream galloping at its best.
Seeing visions of Venom, and then Peter Parker,
You grab your napkin and soon a magic marker.
Drawing was something that came natural,
It was a gift in which you were given.
A power so strong, it makes you a superhero, too,
And keep the comics living.
Although you've seen hard times,
Cramps, sickness, a broken arm,
You knew inside you'd still go on,
Those problems were only mere obstacles, they didn't do much harm.
Nothing could prevent you, from your favorite pastime,
Of drawing heroes stopping villains from doing various crimes.
You saw yourself as an artist, maybe nothing really more,
But that's where you were wrong, to me you are something special.
Captain America may have his mighty shield,
Thor a hammer in which he wields.
You have your pen and ink,
A power no other superhero would dare to choose to think.
With your ink and pen you conquer an evil in itself.
Fighting to get your work done on time,
Then go to Office Depot and send it away, and put evil back on the right line.
Late at night, you gaze at the stars shining in the sky,
And picture the Silver Surfer riding high.
Lying down in your bed,
Tales of adventure and action circle your head.
To me, Poppy, you're a Grandpa and more,
Forever to be,
Forever to me,
Joe,
Forever my hero. |
